The atmosphere at Spicery Hotel was filled with renewed hope and deep anticipation as Straitgate Schools kicked off its 4-day leadership retreat on Thursday, July 10, 2025. With 35 participants including board members, school leadership, and departmental heads the retreat began with a strong sense of purpose: to reconnect with God, realign with the school’s vision, and reignite passion for transformational impact.

Day 1: Spiritual Grounding and Vision Alignment

Day 1 was intentionally curated as a time of spiritual grounding, connection, and reflection. Participants arrived in the afternoon to a warm welcome and refreshments, followed by an opening session that set the tone for the days ahead.

The evening featured a powerful Bible study led by Mr. Ade Adetayo, reminding everyone that “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1). This was followed by an engaging breakout session where participants reflected honestly on where we are as a school and where we believe God is calling us to go.

A creative and heartfelt activity titled “Vision Wall” allowed each participant to share three personal hopes for the future of Straitgate Schools. The result was a tapestry of faith, unity, and bold dreams pinned to a wall but anchored in heaven.

The night concluded with a welcome dinner, networking, and light-hearted team games that strengthened bonds, leaving hearts full and spirits lifted.

Day 2: Strategy and Leadership Capacity with Rotimi Eyitayo

Day 2 shifted the focus to strategic visioning and leadership development, anchored by an insightful session with Mr. Rotimi Eyitayo, a renowned business strategist. His teaching challenged participants to think beyond operational routines and embrace innovation, resilience, and forward-thinking leadership.

Workshops explored school marketing, digital opportunities, and organizational growth strategies, equipping leaders with fresh ideas to strengthen Straitgate Schools’ brand and impact. A leadership clinic gave departmental heads the opportunity to share challenges and brainstorm actionable solutions together.

The day closed with an intimate fireside chat where participants exchanged stories of faith, leadership, and lessons learned, leaving everyone motivated to step up as transformational leaders.

Day 3: Global Perspectives on Education and Innovation

Day 3 broadened the lens, bringing in world-class thought leaders who inspired participants to think globally while acting locally.

Dr. Joy Isa, an internationally respected education consultant, delivered a dynamic session on advancing teaching and learning standards in the 21st century. She emphasized innovation in pedagogy, teacher training, and student-centered approaches.

Prof. Cynthia Tyisck, a renowned digital and e-learning expert from Buffalo, USA, took participants through the future of digital learning, technology integration, and the global shift toward blended education.

Together, their insights challenged leaders to position Straitgate Schools not only as a beacon of Christian values but also as a hub of academic excellence and digital readiness.

The evening concluded with a covenant service, where prayers were offered for the schools, the vision, and the future. It was a sacred moment of rededication and surrender to God’s guidance.

Cultural Celebration and Unity

The retreat ended on a high note with a Cultural Dinner Night a colorful celebration of diversity, unity, and heritage. Participants showcased and represented their various cultures through traditional attire, food, and performances. It was a beautiful reminder that though we come from different backgrounds, at Straitgate Schools we are one family, united under Christ and committed to raising a generation for God.

Looking Ahead

As the retreat drew to a close, the sense of unity, renewal, and clarity was undeniable. From spiritual grounding to global educational insights and a celebration of culture, the retreat equipped participants with vision, strategy, and faith for the future.

We are confident that He who began this good work in us will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). The journey has begun and the future of Straitgate Schools is brighter than ever.
